Responsibilities
Develop overall business strategies and action plans for the transportation (inbound and outbound) group. Oversee and manage transportation dispatch and scheduling functions. Work directly with emerging markets to support and develop cost effective transportation programs for those regions.
Develops and implements carrier qualification and management programs. Ensures logistical and fleet best practices are developed and executed. Serving as SK’s final decision maker, regularly exercises discretion and judgment regarding logistical operation best business practices. Leverages the use of private fleet versus common carriers to ensure SK’s logistical practices are advantageous and cost effective.
Oversees the sourcing, negotiating, and management of major transportation contracts (including OTR, Rail and Barge). Oversees the management of third party logistics providers to include final decisions regarding terms and conditions of the 3rd party logistics contracts.
Corporate sponsor for the off-the-shelf transportation management software package (s). Project lead for the development, implementation, and success of these systems.
Develop annual budgets and in-year financial outlooks for transportation expenses for SK. Review, identify and correct variations to the budget or plan numbers each period.
Oversee the payment and control of transportation expenses through freight payables manager and the A/P group. Draft, approve and maintain company policies regarding transportation ordering and freight payment.
Work with direct ship national account group to develop transportation proposals, improve efficiency and eliminate problems.
Work with disposal group to develop best case T&D programs for the company.
Requirements
Bachelors Degree required Master’s Degree preferred
7 – 10 years experience
Prior work experience with an OTR carrier in the areas of operation and pricing
Experience managing OTR, rail, ocean and barge companies from a shipper stand point.
